The garden space at the ground of Arthur Court on the Doddington and Rollo Estate has been unused and locked since 2013 when the former Doddington Activity Centre closed due to a leak.
Local residents worked hard to clear the garden in 2019 and open the space again for community use. Unfortunately the garden was not opened again and has since become overgrown with vegetation. The outdoor furniture and play space have become dilapidated and dangerous.
Voluntary organisation, s.labs, are leading a project with local residents to bring this space back into community use in Summer 2024. Then s.labs will work to deliver an improved garden, designed with residents, in Summer 2025.

Arthur Court, Charlotte Despard Ave, London SW11 4LX
Many residents live in overcrowded homes without proper ventilation. As the weather gets warmer due to climate change, we need more accessible green spaces that support happy and healthy communities.
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted how small green spaces support local communities. The majority of Doddington and Rollo Estate residents do not have access to outdoor space from their home.
This space was originally intended for the community. It is time to cut the locks and put this space back into the hands of local residents!
s.labs are leading a participatory design process with the local community. Through community events and surveys, s.labs are gathering evidence from the community on what they would like to see in a new residents' garden.
s.labs are producing:
spring - summer 2024
The People's Priorities Survey is focused on the community's feelings towards the existing public spaces on the estate.
Pop-up events will take place in the garden throughout Summer 2024. Residents will be invited to engage in activities such as:
summer- winter 2024
Using the survey feedback and outcomes of the co-design workshop, s.labs will produce a Design and Action Plan for the new residents garden. This will be shared with the community for feedback.
The Design and Action Plan will be used to apply for funding from different organisations to make the vision a reality in the garden.
winter 2024- summer 2025
After securing funding, s.labs will coordinate action on site to deliver an open and accessible space that is inviting for all residents.
In time for Wandsworth Borough of Culture, s.labs are working to make this space a community garden that local residents can be proud of.
